The congresses have left the city last year 46.7 million euros (28/04/2009)

Murcia has established itself as an ideal destination for congresses.

Proof of this is that conference tourism last year generated 46.7 million euros, taking place in the 1008 municipal meetings, with 127,120 participants, according to a study conducted annually by the Congress Bureau of the Department of Tourism of the City.

These figures considerably exceed the average of the previous four years (2004 to 2007) in which they performed an average of 633 meetings with 100,773 participants.

Specifically, it held 55 congresses (17,275 delegates), 212 conventions (21,170 persons) and 741 days (with 88,675 participants).

Average attendance per event is 126 people.

Participants at events are left between 317 and 156 euros per participant and day in the city.

This cost includes registration fee, accommodation, meals and extra expenses as inland transportation and shopping.

Most meetings are held in hotel ballrooms (56.75%), 12% in the Auditorium and Congress Center and a 31.21% in the University and other venues around town.

In terms of sectors engaged in congress, 79% are private companies and public institutions 21%.

The medical field with a 27.63% Congress is the most celebrated, followed by economic and commercial, with 26.97% and culture (17.54%).

Most participants are Spanish (94.3%), especially in Andalusia, Valencia, Catalonia and Madrid, compared with 5.7% coming from abroad.

In the Region participated in conferences in the city 90,302 people, 31,478 domestic and 5,340 foreign people.

March, April, May, June, October and November are the months in which more conferences and meetings are held.

The congress gets 3.9 points, the personal attention of Congress 4.5 points, 4.2 hotel employees, and overall organization of the congress gets 4.5 points.

Business tourism is an important source of revenue for the municipality.
