The Community is committed to strengthening the commitment to education of hospitalized children (22/04/2009)

The Minister of Health, María Ángeles Palacios, along with the general director of Academic Planning, Aurora Fernandez, and the managing director of the Hospital Universitario Morales Meseguer, Tomas Fernandez, opened the conference of the Student Educational Sick Care in the Region of Murcia 'Educating for vulnerability', which are held in the Hospital Morales Meseguer, organized by the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment in collaboration with Health.

Palacios said the Community's interest in "strengthening the commitment of health and education sectors in improving the education of the child and adolescent health status."

He further stated that the aim of this conference is to disseminate knowledge and the role that each of the agents involved in the care of a sick child and the actions that take place in this area. "

Aurora Fernandez said: "These meetings allow for progress in the dissemination of the classroom and set new challenges in the educational standards of care for hospitalized children."

Thus, stressed the interest of the Ministry of Education to address these children, so it has boosted the education of home support service for those young who are forced to spend periods of convalescence of more than 30 days at home.

In 2008 more than 2,000 children passed through the hospital wards of the region, found in the centers of the Arrixaca Lady, Queen Sofia, Morales Meseguer and Santa María del Rosell.

The Minister of Health stressed that "it is essential to the coordination of all professionals involved in the process of educating children who are hospitalized" for "you can create a fun learning environment and social media to normalize their lives."

Children who are ill often face a forced estrangement from the classroom due to the consultations, tests and even hospitalization can sometimes entail.

The hospital schools in the region try to minimize the most of this educational and social fracture that involves the disease.
