The Community expands the range of facilities of the Network of Nature classrooms with a new building at the Regional Park Valley (22/04/2009)

The new building has 200 square feet on two floors and an investment of 400,000 euros

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water expected to participate in the workshop of about 4,000 students each school year

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, today inaugurated the 'Workshop Arboretum Nature Valley', a new building of 200 square feet on two floors, according to Cerda, "will serve to strengthen non-formal education provision on environment "as a daily host to groups of 50 students from the region of all educational levels, which will be attended by a multidisciplinary team of environmental educators.

The General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity has invested 400,000 euros in the construction of this building, which from now will also be the headquarters of the Nature Classroom Network of Murcia and the hub of Interpretation Program Natural Heritage.

The Ministry expected to participate in the workshop of about 4,000 students each school year, the high interpretation of the environment as it is located inside the Regional Park and Carrascoy Valley, and near other facilities are also located in interest such as the Valley Visitor Center, the Center for Wildlife Recovery, an arboretum and a recently refurbished hostel.

In this regard, the Minister stressed that the main objective of this new infrastructure will "encourage curiosity and interest in the knowledge of the natural and cultural environment and build positive attitudes and behaviors for conservation of environment."

Red Nature's Classroom

The new building is in addition to infrastructure in the Network of Nature's Classroom, a project launched in 2005 with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and the accession of many municipalities.

The courses offered by this network has two aspects.

On the one hand, the classrooms and workshops, located in protected natural areas in the municipalities of Murcia, Cartagena, Yecla, Cieza, Caravaca de la Cruz, Totana, Calasparra, Puerto Lumbreras, San Pedro del Pinatar and Fortuna.

Classrooms are visited by groups of students over several days or one day.

They can learn and enjoy contact with nature, discovering the physical environment, landscape, biodiversity and wildlife characteristic of the area, with the help of specialist teachers.

In the case of environmental education campaigns are environmental educators who move to schools and colleges, teachers' request to give talks and organize participatory activities, audiovisual support.

During the past academic year 2007-2008, more than 41,000 students participated in the Network Programme Classrooms of the Nature of the Region of Murcia.

In this course, provision of the Network is aimed not only to the school community, but also extended to groups, associations or other organized groups in new environmental education campaigns.
