The University of Murcia introduced the eco-car built by students (20/04/2009)

The University of Murcia presented today at the University Social eco-car prototype designed and built by students and which will compete in the Shell Eco Marathon Europe "held in Lausitz (Germany) next May.

The entire University of Murcia, in the last edition was in fifth place in the category of prototypes with ethanol as fuel, will compete this year with more than two hundred teams from not only Europe but also Asia and Africa, said in the presentation by Professor Antonio González Carpena.

Carpena González highlighted the participation of students, of which he said are the real stars, "as the work of teachers is to guide."

The prototype, known as "Salzillo II", is sponsored by the company "Davasa" and the Agency for Energy Management in the Region of Murcia, and with the collaboration of the School of Industrial and Regional Federation Employers of the Metal.

Teodoro Garcia, director of the Agency for Energy Management, stressed the importance of the project and encouraged the students, while Jose Francisco Puche, director general of Industry, said the prototype "has a very clear merit, and the fact that Last year I was in fifth place is a success. "

For his part, Luis Valero, director general of "Davasa", he stressed that this firm, with over 35 years old, is a leader in the sector and encouraged the company to promote such projects and the business world, provide strong support for them.

The rector, José Antonio Cobacho, welcomed the "Salzillo II" and congratulated the students, "that with such projects, he added, honor the Murcia Region."

Cobacho highlighted the fact that the project involves students and teachers of different qualifications such as Engineering, Economics and Chemical Engineering.

The "Salzillo II" has a four-stroke engine of 25 cc.

and is adapted to ethanol, carbon fiber body, aluminum chassis and transmission in three stages, with a total approximate weight of 30 kilos.

The competition "Shell Eco Marathon Europe is to cover the greatest distance with a liter of fuel, with different categories, depending on the type of vehicle and fuel prototype.
