Professor Sánchez URIOS awarded the Order of Princess Olga of Ukraine (03/04/2009)

A professor at the University of Murcia URIOS Antonia Sanchez was today awarded the distinction of the Order of Princess Olga of Ukraine during a ceremony held in convalescence and he dedicated this recognition to the people of that country.

Urios Sánchez, professor of the School of Social Work, said that Ukraine "is a country larger than France, with larger population, despite which is a great unknown," adding that there are currently counted in the Region of Murcia almost 6,300 Ukrainians.

He also referred to some tragic moments experienced by the Ukrainian nation, as the "Great Famine" that struck in 1932 and 1933 and that meant death for seven million people.

Ukraine's ambassador in Madrid, Anatoliy Scherba, said after the medal give the same had been granted by the president of the republic by the contribution of this teacher to the study of Ukrainian diaspora and the strengthening of relations between his country and Spain .

The event also involved the director of the School of Social Work, Manuel Medina, and the president of the Association of Ukrainians in the Region of Murcia, Larysa Ponomarenko.

For its part, the rector, José Antonio Cobacho, congratulated Professor honored for their studies and encouraged her to continue in the same line.
