Murcia will bike rental system in the last quarter of this year (01/04/2009)

Murcia will have bike rental system in the last quarter of this year.

The Board of Governors approved the specifications for competitive recruitment of the implementation of this service.

Through this service the Department of Environment and Urban Quality made available to the population at least a hundred bikes that can be used on a rental basis for their movements.

The bikes are arranged in points in the areas of highest demand and each will have a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 bicycles where the user can collect and return the bike after use.

The company that is awarded shall furnish such items and materials required to implement service public bike rental in the municipality and provide for their installation, operation and maintenance throughout the contract period to ensure all when the correct operation.

Among the different tenders submitted will be selected rental system mode of public bicycle that best suits the characteristics of our municipality, but are established as minimum requirements to be met by service:

It will be an automatic rental system.

The first 30 minutes of each journey will be free for any type of subscriber.

Long-term subscribers (12 consecutive months maximum):

Annual amount of € 20 registration system

First hour each way (one after the 30 minutes free) 0.50 €

Hours per journey € 1

Other subscribers (subscribers of short duration, maximum 7 consecutive days):

Registration amount for the system: 5 € (for enrollment in the system)

Referred to reduced rates for pensioners, unemployed and families.

In order to ensure proper functioning of the system and evaluate its development sets out a list of quality indicators among which the degree of user satisfaction

The system shall be installed in the last quarter of the year and term of the contract is 5 years, renewable for another 5.

During the first month of operation of the tariff will be free.

The main goals to achieve are:

Provide the public with access to the bicycle, by providing a bike rental service.

Promote cycling as a means of transport in movement patterns within the municipality of Murcia.

Encourage intermodality between public transport, cycling and pedestrians.
