Murcia City Council encourages renewable energy (24/03/2009)

The three facilities represent a major public calls for solar investment in Spain

Will mean a saving of 17,250 tonnes of CO2 a year and generate more energy than consumed by the lighting of the entire municipality

The municipal properties, which are found in the districts of Gaia and Truyols, Jerome and Avileses and Sucina, will have solar farms.

The innovative features of this offering, including solar photovoltaic and thermal, located in the municipality of Murcia in Spain in the forefront of renewable energy.

These gardens is expected to initially generate 15MW of photovoltaic energy annually, which would save 17,250 tonnes of emissions of CO2 a year.

The dimensions of the plots are: Gea and Truyols with 5.6 hectares, the Sucina Peraleja has 43 hectares and the El Escobar in Jerome and Avileses with 100 hectares.

All the sites offer similar features and unbeatable for the purpose intended.

The location of these solar installations, to be at points of very high solar radiation and with plenty of sunshine, will ensure high production cost.

Companies that aspire to be awarded will improve the conditions required by the City.

The administrative concession will be held for 25 years and may be extended 10 years, although the life of these facilities is usually about 40 years.

This specification offers excellent conditions and excellent, fully adapted to the current situation that makes the quota law.

Bidding is a very modern and flexible, while encouraging, promoting business investment in the town, attracts business while encouraging saving and caring for our environment, avoiding large and harmful CO2 emissions to atmosphere.

Recall that the Local Strategy to Fight Climate Change aims to achieve a reduction of 240,000 tons of CO2.

ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change indicate that Murcia City Council from 2010 to 2012 these facilities will prevent the emission into the atmosphere of 51,750 tons of CO2.

Only with this action we get to 21% target by 2012.

A strategy to fight climate change successfully be developed in four distinct areas: climate risk in itself and the political will to deal with it, local participation in the fight against climate change, and innovation necessary for a change methods of production and use of energy.
