Pedro Saura: "We need a social Europe out of the crisis" (13/03/2009)

The secretary general of PSRM-PSOE, Pedro Saura, who participated as a speaker yesterday in the cycle "Debate Europe" organized by the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Murcia, defended the need for "a new social democracy, and more Europe" to out of the crisis.

And, in his opinion, "this new social democracy should play a pivotal role in the growth of national income and its distribution."

In his lecture, Pedro Saura opted for the establishment of a new European financial supervisory authority "to remove the existing information gaps inconsistent with a single market and currency, as well as the creation of a European Treasury" to allow coordinated responses system to crisis, and encourage pan-European projects. "

On the other hand, Saura explained that the autonomous communities "are discussed, for the first time about his role in the crisis," and recalled that they have all the skills that have to do with the future of our regions, such as education, innovation, industry, land use, etc.

For the Socialist leader, is still important redistributive policies that marked the Welfare State.

He gave the example of Law Unit "as a fourth pillar of the welfare state established in Europe."

"We need a strong Europe, because a single country can not hope to solve a global crisis.

If we need to boost European Parliament also need a strong and progressive, social democratic Europe as a great leverage to end the crisis, "he concluded.
