A campaign by the University of Murcia and FUNDOWN promotes coexistence of academics and people with intellectual disabilities (09/03/2009)

"Shared housing: independent know differently" is the slogan promoted by the Social Screening Service and Volunteerism at the University of Murcia in collaboration with FUNDOWN.

The campaign was launched during the entire month of March in various faculties, schools and lecture halls at the University of Murcia.

The campaign aims to highlight the rights of persons with intellectual disability to exercise control over their own lives through the integration into the community in which they live.

FUNDOWN account for it with a network of homes in Murcia in people living with disabilities and students from the University of Murcia to perform the role of mediators.

These students receive as compensation the possibility of free accommodation in Murcia.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of this initiative Shared Housing as part of FUNDOWN services, promoting autonomy and independence for people with intellectual disabilities, to analyze the figures of mediation in the psychoeducational model of the School of Life, and disseminate lessons vital for those involved in these initiatives.

The schedule is as follows:

9 and 10 March.

Faculty of Education

11 and 12 March.

School of Social Work

16 and 17 March.

North Classroom Building

23 and 24 March.

School of Nursing

30 and 31 March.

Faculty of Education

Closing the Campaign will be held the " Symposium on Shared Housing to People with Intellectual Disabilities ", to be held on 30 and 31 March 2009 in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Education in the afternoon.
