Valcárcel opened the exhibition 'La Dermatology: A journey through time', which shows the great advances in this specialty (02/03/2009)

The president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today inaugurated the exhibition "Dermatology: A journey through time ', which shows the great advances in the medical specialty that will allow visitors to make a trip back through testimony scientific and historical first order.

Section Murcia of the Spanish Academy of Dermatology brings the Archivo General de Murcia 60 wax sculptures of the nineteenth century Olavide Museum, created in 1882 by the dermatologist José Eugenio Olavide, in which students learned to recognize the time dermatological diseases , then many of them marked by social stigma.

Dr. José Eugenio Olavide became the Hospital San Juan de Dios, Madrid, the first Spanish hospital specializing in dermatology and prompted an extensive collection of wax figures at which time Expert sculptors were recreating the various skin diseases medicine at the time was classified, some of them have already disappeared and others are still incurable today.

This collection has been used to carry out important studies and doctoral dissertations that have enabled remarkable success in this field.

The specialty of dermatology at present continues to develop in our region, with implementation by the Health Service of Murcia as a pilot project in the Department of Dermatology, Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, using telemedicine to treat cases of Attention Primary.

Family physicians have the ability to access, via internet, by sending photos, the views of the faculty of the Dermatology Service Arrixaca.

This is one of the latest advances that are being undertaken in health care in the Region of Murcia.
