A trip in time of dermatology (02/03/2009)

The Archives has become this week's extension of Olavide Museum, founded in the mid-nineteenth century in Madrid and made up an exhibition of wax figures played the skin diseases.

The Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV) on the occasion of the centenary of its founding in 1909, has organized the exhibition was inaugurated today by President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, and the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel House.

The exhibition, entitled "Dermatology: a journey through time" can be seen in the Archives, from today until next Saturday.

His intention is to publicize the activities of the dermatologists through a set of 60 pieces made in the nineteenth century by artists such as Zofia Enrique Dávila, José Rafael López Álvarez Barta and to graph the skin lesions.

The figures have been restored by the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and the exhibition can also see photographs and panels explaining the hospital environment in which they were made, the process of creating the figures and their recovery and restoration.

Olavide Museum was founded in 1882 by José Eugenio Olavide dermatologist, and after his disappearance, AEDV has undertaken to restore and catalog some 500 figures, many of them on permanent display in Madrid at the Institute of Occupational Medicine and in the Park of Sciences of Granada.
