The extension of the center over Corvera allows its members to enjoy better facilities (27/02/2009)

Positive thinking courses, physiotherapy, gerontogimnasia and ballroom dancing are part of the supply of school activities

The largest of Corvera have completely rejuvenated facilities which hold their activities and participate in workshops and training courses.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Policy and Equality, María del Carmen Pelegrin, and the President of the association, Antonio Fernández Soto, has made this morning a visit to the new extension performed at the Center Senior Social.

The works undertaken have involved the construction from the yard to locate the consultation room, hair salon and store, and the reform of the bar and lounge general.

The work, which has required an expenditure of 109,000 euros, has led to the expansion of the units at 78 square meters, leaving the floor area of 316 m2.

The effort by the City Council to improve the municipal center - located on Old School Street in the hamlet, was intended to provide residents of Corvera modern facilities, comprehensive and useful to promote the association and to promote integral development through organizing courses, workshops and training offers of various kinds.

The center needed a building expansion in order to offer the largest in the area a center where they can develop in the best condition the activities of this group.

The association was established over 26 years and currently has 331 members, headed by Antonio Fernandez Soto.

Their activities in it are gerontogimnasia workshops, physical, cultural trips, ballroom dancing on Sundays, courses-including positive thinking, and lectures on topics of interest.

They also have coffee service, hairdressing and podiatry consultation.

In general, older centers have 12 different types of activities, including sports, leisure and cultural as well as learning relaxation techniques and health.

Next to the traditional, such as plastic and crafts, painting, choral music, dancing or reading, with time have been incorporated into other options such as memory training, gerontogimnasia, tai chi, self-esteem, health and beauty and laughter therapy.
