The European Union considers Murcia one of the 10 best cities in Europe that celebrates the Mobility Week (24/02/2009)

The EU believes that the initiatives are "exceptionally good" and praised the push for sustainable transport such as tram

Mayor House reaffirms its commitment to further develop climate change strategies that increase the quality of life

Murcia was one of the top 10 European cities in the celebration of the Mobility Week 2008, as published in the European Mobility Week Press Release of February.

Therefore, the city has been a finalist in the award of the European Mobility Week, which recognizes the work of the city that has achieved major achievements related to this matter, mainly in the implementation of permanent measures to make urban transport more sustainable.

The distinction corresponds to the seventh edition of the European Mobility Week 2008 and gives the ciscunstancia it was the first that was organized in Murcia.

The theme was for the occasion was "Clean Air for All" and took 2,102 cities.

Reached an estimated 218 million citizens.

The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, expressed his satisfaction over the appointment and stressed the commitment of Murcia for "further developing and promoting policies and strategies to combat climate change to enable us to preserve our environment and, especially, ensure future generations a better environment at the same time we increase the quality of life. "

Leading European

The EU recognizes "sustainable transport" driven in the city, which includes the new tramway, and praised the activities undertaken during the last week of mobility, most notably the Day pedestrian, public transport free, eco-driving and the closing of streets to traffic, the creation of green corridors and the promotion of cycling trails track construction.

Similarly, it also recognizes the proper functioning of air quality measurement.

Only two other Spanish cities and Ponferrada-Burgos, have been awarded as finalists.

With more than 2,100 participants in the 7 th edition, the European Mobility Week is the largest event dedicated to sustainable mobility.

The large increase in the number of participants shows that local authorities have a key role in its actions to ensure that citizens can move around our cities in a fast, safe and pollution in the air we breathe.

The Prize of the European Mobility Week award to cities that have done best projects that contribute to more sustainable transport in cities.
