Young blind and deaf in Europe and Latin America are meeting in Murcia to promote integration (19/02/2009)

Participating municipalities and youth organizations to adapt information services to disabled youth

Murcia will be converted from 26 to 28 February in the cradle of the integration of youth with disabilities with the celebration of the International Seminar 'Best Practices in Youth Information and Inclusion Strategy for Young People with Sensory Disabilities. "

This is a conference in which it is intended to give the keys to eliminating barriers to information and youth with disabilities, especially hearing and vision, can seamlessly access youth information services.

This seminar is part of the 'Information and active citizenship: a strategy for inclusion of people with fewer opportunities', funded by the European Commission and led and coordinated by the Department of Youth, directed by María Dolores Sánchez, with the participation of CAM.

The conference will be attended by members of the Youth Council of the City of Murcia, Informajoven Center, Federation of Deaf People in the Region of Murcia (FESORMU) Murcia ONCE, ONCE Foundation for Latin America (FOAL) and the Youth Council Spain.

In addition, Hispanic young people, heads of organizations of persons with disabilities and Youth Information Centres in Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Italy, Mexico and Portugal.

The conference will begin on Thursday, February 26 at the Auditorium Annex building and the opening will be at 9.30 am.

Be followed by a roundtable discussion on youth and disabilities (10.45 hours) and a paper on the work of the ONCE Foundation for Latin America (13 hours).

Then in the afternoon (16.30 hours), will visit the headquarters of the delegation of ONCE in Murcia to find typhlotechnology programs and Braille for blind youth have access to information.

On Friday, the conference presentations will begin with New Technologies and Access to Information for the deaf (9.30 pm, Annex Building), and 11.30 am will begin the best practice seminars in which various persons responsible for the participating countries will present experience in the field of adaptation of services to disabled youth.

At 12.30 will present its experience the Youth Council of Murcia, at 13.30 Colombia, France 17 hours to 18 hours Ecuador, Italy at 18.30 and 19 hours will be the turn of Portugal.

The presentations will continue on Saturday, at 9.30 stating the best practices 10.30 am Mexico and Argentina.

The afternoon participants will visit the city.

In order to make the presentations in the Annex Building and CEMACAM has made a personal study with the ONCE to adapt these spaces.

In addition, the material and documentation of the conference will be held in Braille and will have sign language interpreters.

What you do in Murcia

The Youth Council of the City of Murcia has implemented measures to adapt youth information services to persons with disabilities.

Among other things, there have been meetings with the youth of FESORMU and a group is performing activities with the Informajoven, is working on the transcription of information from the website of Informajoven in sign language courses are being made to accompany blind people in order to participate in the workshop properly.

The City Council has signed an agreement with the ONCE to adapt municipal websites and facilities for the disabled.
