The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Angel House, has signed this afternoon in Brussels the Covenant of Mayors, a tool to promote sustainable development of cities and which was proposed by the European Commission a year ago.
The aim is saving and energy efficiency and combating climate change.

The Covenant of Mayors is considered the most ambitious initiative driven so far to facilitate citizen participation in the fight against climate change.
Murcia and Madrid were the first Spanish cities in joining, which were soon followed by Amsterdam, Paris, London, Rome, Lisbon, Helsinki, Stockholm and Warsaw, among others.

Among the interventions that have been found later the President of the European Investment Bank, Philippe Maystadt, Andris Piebalgs, European Commissioner for Energy, Luc Van den Brande, president of the Committee of the Regions, and Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York.
