An exhibition to discover the importance of owls in the SPA of the Valley and the mountains of Altaona and Escalona (27/01/2009)

To publicize the importance of owls in the Special Protection Area for birds in the Monte Valley and the mountains of Altaona and Escalona.

This is the goal of her exhibition 'where the owl lives' organized by the Department of Environment and Quality Urban Neighborhood Association for Sustainable Development Garruchal (Adesga) and the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity.

The exhibition includes a series of seven films that describe the Natura 2000 Network, its benefits and its problems, the SPA, the Mediterranean ecosystem, wildlife, threats, attacks and the potential for solutions that help its preservation.

It also explains the best pictures of Puerto del Garruchal made in the first edition of the Garruchal Fotomaratón held in 2007.

In a first stage the exhibition will travel to secondary schools and cultural centers of the South Coastal districts of Campo de Murcia.

The first institute that is displayed is Beniaján Cultural Centre from 16 February, but until that day will be discussed in the General Directorate of Natural Heritage (Professor Eugenio Úbeda street, number 3).

After the summer, will be shown in other city centers.

The Special Protection Area for Birds has the largest density of owls known world, with about 65 couples surveyed, being a natural space included in the Natura 2000 network, the set of most representative ecosystems of the European Union.

Adesga collaboration between the Department of Environment and Urban Quality and the Directorate General of Heritage and Biodiversity natutal permitted to carry out other measures to publicize the areas such as the training days and discussion of the SPA with the residents and owners environment, the Garruchal Fotomaratón II, the spread of environmental values among the residents in the districts of the South Coast and Country estates of Murcia and activities with groups of hunters.
