Secretary of State Universities presents the University Strategy 2015 at the University of Murcia (22/01/2009)

Secretary of State for Universities, Marius Rubiralta, accompanied by the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Antonio Cobacho, presented to board members of government and social council of the university the University Strategy 2015 and has collected contributions from the different groups of the university system to the initiative.

The visit is part of the round of meetings that the Ministry of Science and Innovation carried out with Spanish universities to be involved in this strategy of modernizing the university system.

The round of visits started last October 23 at the University of Santiago de Compostela and proceeded with the universities of Alicante, on October 28, Oviedo, November 5, Pompeu Fabra, November 17, Vigo, 21 November, Salamanca, 26 November, Extremadura, Dec. 18, at the Universities of Valencia and Polytechnic University of Valencia, on 12 January, Pablo de Olavide, 8 January Burgos, 15 January.

Secretary of State has stated that the University Strategy 2015 "aims to place Spain among the 10 countries of the world's most advanced university education, science, technology and innovation, and our universities among the most attractive and competitive in Europe, ensuring that the system Spanish university as a whole, further progress towards excellence and consolidated in the international context. "

Rubiralta noted that the University Strategy 2015, "is a bet the government, led by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, to encourage greater involvement of the Spanish university system with the social and economic changes of our society.

This is a great social pact for higher education between Central Government, regional administrations, universities, social and economic actors and society at large, to meet the challenges of globalization in 2015.

2015 U.S. Benefits

The main objective of the Strategy 2015 is to achieve best universities with a training system and a research and knowledge transfer, quality and competitive in the European and international scene, explained the secretary of state.

It also stressed that the proper design and implementation of Strategy 2015 University generate important benefits, among them greater university autonomy, strengthening policies scholarship and study aids, motivation and involvement of the student group, a university more affordable, new university profiles adapted to current needs, greater transparency in accountability, a competitive university locally and globally, as well as the transfer of knowledge and applied technology more efficiently.

Campus of Excellence

In addition, Marius Rubiralta central lines exposed Campus of Excellence program, one of the priorities of the University Strategy 2015 which seeks to promote the aggregation of institutions sharing the same campus, develop a joint strategic project to create an academic, scientific, entrepreneurial and innovative managed to get a high visibility internacional.El real goal is to create environments of university life socially integrated urban district or territory, and high quality services and improvements in sustainability environment.

It also seeks to address challenges such as attracting the best students and researchers and competition for research facilities and companies to locate high value on university campus environments.

Investment

Under the Spanish Stimulus Plan for Economy and Employment of the Government, called Plan E, which includes measures already in place and measures that the Government will adopt in the coming months, it has arranged a special fund of 200 million euros for Spanish universities.

In addition to the Campus of Excellence Program, the government allocated 150 million euros in 2008 and this year will deliver 219 million for the university campus, with the aim of improving the conditions of study, work and life university community.

Visit the Campus de Espinardo

Secretary of State for Universities, accompanied by the Rector of the University of Murcia, also made a visit to the Campus de Espinardo, University of Murcia.

The campus is located on Science Park, University of Murcia, which has the fourth most powerful supercomputer in Spain, called 'Ben Arabi', which will be fully operational next April.

The supercomputer will allow researchers and companies provide a tool that will give the Murcia Region a competitive advantage when developing the research and development.
