The theater as a tool to prevent violence and promote tolerance and solidarity (15/01/2009)

The Department of Education and crew, who heads Megía Pilar, has launched a new theatrical performance to raise awareness and promote tolerance in the educational environment and thus prevent the development of violent behavior among students.

The representation is about bullying and bullying and is entitled "Missed Call", for middle and high school students.

The play will be staged in the auditorium of La Alberca (on February 23) in Cabezo de Torres (24 February) and Beniaján (25 February).

There will be two sessions in each of the halls (at 9:30 and 11:30 hours).

In total, 1,640 students from 16 schools in the municipality.

The contents of the show have been monitored by Jordi Frauca, founder of the Association Against Bullying in Catalonia, a specialist consultant in the field and other products related to bullying, as the film Cowards José Corbacho.

In addition to the theatrical, this playful and educational activity will have two parts so that students have a better understanding about what is school violence and bullying.

To do so, before attending the performance, students work in groups to learn to resolve conflicts in a different way and know the problem of bullying.

In addition, better know themselves and their peers, while seeking solutions to a problem that many students have suffered.

After attending the performance, students will be expected to summarize the contents of the play and must respond to a questionnaire on "One Missed Call."

Synopsis of the work

The main plot revolves around bullying.

Claudia, a 17-year-old comes back to school.

For her to go to class every morning is a nightmare, since Homer, his best childhood friend, decides to make life impossible.

It all begins when Homer finds that Claudia monopolizes too much attention from the rest of the class (especially from his friend David) and decides to play a joke "not important" to be finished out of hand.

Aggression and violence in schools are a problem in many countries for decades.

The bullying and abuse (bullying) usually consist of verbal and physical actions of a negative type with a hostile purpose.

These behaviors cause the medium term a clear harm in children and seriously interferes with their development.

Victims of bullying become increasingly unable to defend themselves, internalizing the helplessness, which is the central cause of all psychological damage begin to appear.

90% of the damage is psychological and physical accounts for only 10%.

As for the consequences of bullying and school violence: impairs the student's overall development, reduces the learning opportunity, reduce cooperative behavior, undermines the sense of affiliation or membership of the educational institution involved in the development of creativity, develops a process of intimidation and violent interaction model creates discomfort, discouragement and lack of trust in teachers.

The Deputy Mayor of Education and Personal, Pilar Megía, stressed that the City Council of Murcia "we need to work on preventing this type of behavior to bring in students that sense of respect, solidarity and tolerance toward peers.

Developing this type of initiative will allow students to work with different aspects of problem. "

Megía also said that work will not only focus on the theatrical, but is set up working groups among themselves to have a deeper understanding about school violence in order to prevent it.
