A new group of sculptures pay homage to the Blessing of Animals at the door of the hermitage of San Antón (07/01/2009)

The sculpture, large format and cast in bronze, representing a group of faithful who await their master's blessing animals

The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, will open next January 17th a splendid sculpture in tribute to the remote Blessing of the Animals, an act that takes place every year in the chapel of San Anton in the garden of La Seda.

The ceremony will begin at 12.00 with the celebration of the Eucharist, to be followed by the Blessing of Animals and the discovery of the monument.

The sculpture is an allegorical work that represents a number of faithful, with their pets in the moment waiting to receive the blessing of San Anton to the gate of the shrine.

The author is Diego Mirete, who has immortalized the moment when thousands of Murcia close their animals to the temple to be blessed.

The piece has been cast in bronze in the workshops of Loving Art Foundation.

The idea of commemorating the Blessing of the Animals with a monument arose a year ago, driven by the Royal and Most Illustrious Confraternity of San Anton and the pastor of St. Francis Xavier.

The Mayor of Murcia picked up the baton of the proposal and started the paperwork to make it a reality.

In this way, the City of Murcia honors one of its most ancient traditions.

The ancient church of San Antón is a historic building dating back to the Middle Ages, but was rebuilt in the late seventeenth century.

In 1710 he was awarded the license real sanctuary by King Philip V.

Today, worship in the chapel is very popular and each year thousands and thousands of Murcia who celebrate the holiday.

On 17 January, held the day of San Anton from 10.00 am with a pocket rocket and ringing of bells.

The chapel will remain open all day for the visit of devotees of the Saint, who devoted an offering of roses.

In the afternoon, beginning at 19.30 pm and held a procession with the image of San Anton to the parish church.
