The autonomous region contributes 2.6 million euros to the improvement of regular public transport passenger

Mayor says 2009 is the year that will "revolutionize" the mobility in the municipality

Most municipal bet in the history of the city of Murcia to improve road connections will be supported by the Regional Government, which will provide 2.5 million euros to contribute funding in this first phase.

The Mayor, Miguel Angel House, and the Director of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, today signed a collaboration agreement to improve road communications in the municipality of Murcia.

This agreement is part of the collaboration protocol signed by the President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, and the Mayor in February 2007 to improve road communications in the municipality.

Thus, the Ministry of Public Works will provide 2.5 million to support implementation and improvement of North and South Coastal Alternative Sangonera La Verde, which is currently under construction.

It is, however, the first step in what will represent a total investment of 100 million euros, the largest ever undertaken in the history of highways in the municipality, to be funded entirely by the Autonomous Community.

The creation of three new routes will radically change the mobility in the municipality, to improve accessibility in 14 districts and absorb about 60,000 vehicles a day.

The three roads will add 32 kilometers of high-capacity roads and require an investment of 99 million euros.

At present work is in nine sections, which has allocated a budget of 36.3 million euros, subtracting more than 60 million investment until the end of it.

North Coast Torres Cabezo link with the Ñora, while the South Coast Torreagëra connect El Palmar with over 10 kilometers and the Green Alternative Sangonera leave West Industrial Estate, its link with the motorway and El Palmar-Sewer come to Sangonera.

Administrations of both the construction of these roads is a priority.

In fact, this agreement arises because at present, the roads that cross the municipality of Murcia and owned by the Autonomous Community are insufficient to respond to major residential developments that have taken place under the provisions of the General Plan .

The agreement assumes that the regional government will fund 2.5 million euros for the first phase of implementation of these new roads, which will involve a total investment of 100 million euros, Murcia City Council who will undertake the works, through the municipal Urbamusa.

The agreement also includes several improvements to the roads of Los Dolores to the RM-19, which connects with Sucina Truyol Gea y (F-19), and the section linking municipal Sucina Avileses with (F-48).

Passenger

Moreover, the Mayor and the Chief of Public Works have signed another cooperation agreement in this case, through the Public Transport Authority by which the Autonomous Community will contribute 2.6 million euros for improving public transport services in the regular passenger bus in the town in 2009.

With this agreement the two governments planned to contribute to the development, promotion and improvement of public transport by investing to improve overall service and, secondly, through the funding of the bonus that it has applied the City of Murcia in public transport services regular road passenger, general purpose in nature and long distance services between them and coordinated urban transport services in Murcia.

These are actions that add to other initiatives launched in coordination between the municipality and the regional government among which the two editions of "eldíade" held this year, the newly created university UNIBON, which allows an unlimited number trips per month for a single fee, and grants to university by bus transport.

Also, the director and the mayor have reported the integration of the City of Murcia in the Public Transport Authority, making it the first local corporation to join this organization, which will initiate joint actions related to planning, management and management of regular public transport services in urban and intercity travel by road.

As explained by the Mayor, "because we integrate the two administrations are committed to improving public transport regularly and it was a pending issue, because until now there had been pooling will and political decisions."

The new entity will consolidate all transportation policies in the municipality of Murcia.

2009, the year of the new mobility

Moreover, the contribution from the region of EUR 2.6 million will allow the City of Murcia finance studies on mobility and comprehensive reform of the public transport system, ending the division now exists between urban lines and trunk, under a guardianship only to be the Public Transport, shared from the region and the city of Murcia.

Moreover, this money will help maintain the increases in ticket prices which benefit users.

Following the signing of two agreements, the Mayor has said that in 2009 Murcia going to see very concrete realities in the field of mobility: those using private cars, new roads, "those who opt for public transportation, under the new authority Transportation-Public Entity, those who prefer to travel by bicycle, new bicycle lanes connecting the city with the university campus, and the start of the tram line 1.
