The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, wished to reiterate its confidence in the role it plays Convention Bureau to boost economic growth in Murcia and it has shown this evening at the traditional Christmas meeting with partner companies Murcia Convention Bureau.
The economic impact of this meeting in Murcia is now twice that for 5 years, from 28.5 million euros in 2003 to 51.3 million euros in 2007.
During the past five years the area of conferences, meetings, conferences and meetings in the city has made a cumulative turnover of 169.5 million euros.
Has also increased significantly the total number of events held, from 455 activities with 76,371 to 1,041 events with 172,109 participants last year.
In recent years it has doubled the number of attendees at conferences.
Most meetings held in Murcia have been regional in nature (71%), followed by national (24%) and international (5%).
As for evolution, the congresses have been in the past five years while holding conventions has grown considerably from 25 events with 9,000 participants in 2003 to 139 events with 23,980 participants.
Also the conference has experienced significant growth, from 385 days with 49,871 attendees in 2003 to 846 events with 131,788 participants in 2007.
The Convention Bureau of Murcia was founded in 1998 by the City Council, with the collaboration of public and private services sector, with the main objective of promoting Murcia as the seat of congresses, conventions and incentives.
Under the name of Association Members Collaborating Murcia Convention Bureau are associated with companies such as Office travel agencies, bus rental, car rental with driver, audiovisual and multimedia companies, florists, hotels, event agencies , booth rental, printing, Terra Natura, business guides and hostesses, interpreting and translation companies, conference organizers and merchandise and gifts.
