The investment in urban infrastructure and equipment account for 70% of the Planning (09/12/2008)

Investments in urban infrastructure and equipment reach 70% of the total budget of the Urban Planning Department (40 million euros), in order to improve the quality of life of Murcia and provide better communication services, sanitation, supplies, equipment and green areas.

The total budget of Management for 2009 is 58 million euros.

The Department of Planning, led by Fernando Berberena, bet on major public works projects that will enable companies in Murcia to generate work and employment.

Furthermore, in 2009 will reduce running costs and personnel in more than 15%, encouraging savings and containment of recurrent expenditure in the austerity imposed by the current crisis.

Among major projects planned for 2009 is the start of construction of the New Beniaján Avenue, connecting the districts of the southeast of the city, creating Fica-Beniaján axis (from the Fica to the curve popularly known as caruto).

This road will transform the communications system in the area, as has happened with the open sections of Avenida Miguel Indurain.

The new venue will be 3 miles long, two lanes and central median.

The planned investment of 3.8 billion euros.

During the first quarter of 2009 will begin work on a new road in the Campo de Murcia motorway linking the Mar Menor and the future Santomera-San Javier motorway.

This new road will follow the various developments in the field of Murcia and connect with the future airport at Corvera.

The Planning Department continues to promote industrial land.

The goal is to manage the development of industrial estates in various districts of Murcia to encourage businesses to settle in the town, creating wealth.

This project has the participation of the public administration and collaboration of the Institute of Development.

Urban Urbamusa expected to develop in 2009 the partial plans in 5 industrial estates in villages.

Urban will also continue working on the construction of buildings for families affected by relocations due to the development of partial plans.

These buildings will be located in Ronda Sur and in the area of Juan de Borbon y Juan Carlos I.

Management will carry out the completion of large multi-funded projects, such as enlargement, paving and street collector Prince of Asturias, whose works are in progress, the widening and paving of Loaysa Admiral Avenue, also in deeds, and the landscaping of the Avenida Juan de Borbon, starting in January with a budget of 1.6 million euros.

Continue with the ongoing water projects like the Special Infrastructure Plan of the City of Murcia, which envisages the construction of over 40 kilometers of new roads and water supply and sanitation infrastructure, the Collectors of North Coast, South Coast, The Esparragal, Sangonera Zeneta and the Seca.

And the construction of the new headquarters of the Urban Planning Department in Abenarabi Avenue, which were commissioned allow large cost savings for the Consistory, from the economic point of view and greatly improving care services to citizens.

It is also envisaged the widening of the road between El Esparragal Head of Torres, with an investment of 2.5 billion euros.

Management plans to carry out several projects in collaboration with professional associations.

One of them is a plan for revitalization of old ideas with competitions to study the problems of specific neighborhoods of the city and the solutions to rehabilitate them.

The other proposal is a contest of ideas with the Architects Association in organizing and managing the redevelopment of the former three tickets to Murcia, Alicante road, the Sewer and El Palmar.

Urbanism is also continuing its investment activity in infrastructure works, which must be financed ex post by the landowners.

500.00 euros will be earmarked for the rehabilitation of facades in residential buildings, churches, etc., of the municipality.

In conclusion, we have a budget of cost containment as the most important investment effort, with works like the North Coast, South Coast Sangonera variant, are funded by the council, with the management of urban planning.

Management, as an autonomous entity attached to the municipal Department of Planning and Urban Design, is an organization whose income depends almost exclusively on the intensity of economic activity in the housing sector, which is undergoing a severe contraction exacerbated by an unprecedented financial crisis.
