Inauguration of the extension center for integration of mentally disabled people in the hamlet of El Palmar Murcia (02/12/2008)

Occupational Center of the Association for the Integration of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, PEEM, located in El Palmar, as of today has more space and resources to develop its work, after inaugurating the Minister of Social Policy, Women and Migration, Joaquín Bascuñana, the expansion of its facilities.

The project has cost 942,150 euros, of which 704,762 have been contributed by the Community.

With the new module, built on an area ceded by the city of Murcia, congestion on the existing facilities and activities may be multiplied with the participation of 99 users who currently have the center.

Have a workshop area, a Pre-pruner, a basic training center and five study rooms for art, sensory stimulation and new technologies.

Occupational activities that take place in the PEEM are related to the graphic arts (bookbinding, screen printing, printing, and document cases estuchería) and the auxiliary manipulated the company.

The construction and equipping of new facilities completed in 2007, although completion of the project was thought appropriate to develop the environment, ie fencing and put up the plot, which was held this year, bringing the new module is equipped with the appropriate degree of access and livability.

The new units are composed of two floors for workshops and training, which serves users specialized staff whose average age is 35 years.

Among the center's goals include ensuring occupational therapy services and social adjustment of people with disabilities who can not join a company or special employment center.

The aim is to promote personal development to overcome obstacles to their socio-professional integration.

Indeed, tomorrow, day 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, for which the Ministry of Social Policy organized a series of activities on 29 and 30 November in the Plaza de Santo Domingo de Murcia, which consisted theatrical performances, dance and mobility circuit by various groups to help the disabled.

At today's opening was also attended by the director general of People with Disabilities, Marisol Morente, the Councillor for Social Welfare of the City of Murcia, María del Carmen Pelegrin, and the president of FEAPS Murcia, Pedro Arcas.
