The meeting of mayors in La Moncloa concludes "no concrete answers to their demands by the Government" (28/11/2008)

The meeting was held this morning the Executive Committee of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, a member of the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, with the Prime Minister concluded "no concrete answers to the demands raised by mayors. "

In particular, representatives of local governments have raised the need to apply to municipalities criteria budgetary stability law because "there are no arguments to deny local government the same treatment as the autonomous communities and the administration the state. "

Also, the mayors have defended the vital importance in 2009 to recover the level of transfers received by municipalities in 2008 from the State.

About two applications expect a response from the government in the coming days as well as the five approved by the FEMP requirements:

1, Keep the advances on the final settlement to Local Authorities, at least on the same terms and amounts referred to in PGE 2008.

2 º Achieve that applies to 98% (instead of 95% so far) than it is up to local councils, provincial councils and Island Councils, in respect of deliveries with the same criteria are being applied to Autonomous Communities.

3 º Create an equalization fund, 70 to 80 million euros, for municipalities with fewer than 75,000 inhabitants, provincial councils and Island Councils.

4 º Enforcement budgetary stability with equal treatment for Communities and Local Government.

5 th Amendment of the taxable capital gains tax under homogeneous values similar to those used in autonomous taxes.

The Government has undertaken to study the reform of local finance and simultaneously linked to the autonomous communities and the development of a new Statute of Local Government.

At the meeting, for which no concrete answers have been obtained, the Government explained the decree of short-term measures to boost employment through the municipalities, for a total of 8,000 million, distributed according to population.
