The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, this morning presented the exhibition 'Islamic Mirror', the Anglo-Indian artist Anish Kapoor, with director of Bancaja area in the Region of Murcia, Antonio Rubio, and the curator of the same, Rosa Martínez.

This exhibition, co-produced by Bancaja, which takes place at the Museum of Santa Clara from today until January 10, 2009, with which you start the program of interventions in public space from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism with in order to "problematize these spaces through new languages and create new nodes of meaning."

Islamic Mirror is a circular, concave mirror of 2.40 meters in diameter and about 80 kilos in weight.

Composed of small fragments octagonal and square, perfect articulation refers to the formal traffic, mathematical and geometric between the square and the area, a historically significant intellectual concern for mystics, scientists and artists.

The work creates, in the words of Cruz, the knots of meaning through interference of space and time.

Space because "relative the viewing experience, since, up close, the image is fragmented into thousands of small pictures and by far, the myriad of images is absorbed in one that invests the space" so that the different positions of spectator "does not imply a different view on something that remains static but cover a different reality that each point of view creates a different work" and also because the piece "transforms a static space in a smooth space" so that "as the sun changes its position, the place is changing."

Similarly, the work interferes with time as a "historical diachrony breaks and makes a fold in time at which the Islamic culture, contemporary Christian and merge, creating a synthesis that varies quite novel and at times," said the Minister of Culture.

For his part, Martinez, who said the claim that this sample contributes to the internationalization of the region, said "this bill does not live in no better place than here," the room Sharq al-Andalus Museum in Santa Clara Islamic history coexist, alterations and additions and restorations contemporary Christian in 2003 became the south wing into a museum.

The concave mirror set creates an upside-opaque shadow of what is in front, while the fragments that compose octagonal reflect a positive image of what is nearby.

The audience, when they approached, they will see themselves in multiple images, in addition to changing colors and light tones in the outdoor spaces of the cloister.
