Regional Library hosts an exhibit on the history of Printing (18/11/2008)

First centuries of printing in Murcia 'remain in the exhibition hall of the Regional Library until January 24, 2009 |

The general director of Books, Archives and Libraries, Francisco Giménez, opens this evening in Murcia (at 20:00 pm in the Regional Library, Avenida Juan Carlos I, 17) the exhibition "The legacy of the paper.

First centuries of printing in Murcia 'brings together a total of 45 books in 21 display cases with explanatory panels to bring visitors the history of printing in Murcia.

The exhibition will remain on the Regional Library until 24 January is curated by professors of the Faculty of Communication and Information Studies, University of Murcia, Cristina and Amparo García Herrero.

The exhibition offers a tour of the printing material from Murcia since 1484, when the first incunabula, until 1800 for it with funds from the National Library, Museum of Fine Arts of Murcia, Murcia Municipal Archives and Library funds Regional.

"It's a bibliophile exhibition for lovers of the book world," said Francisco Gimenez, "it is a journey through the history of printing and can see 4 incunabula from the National Library and data of the first books printed in Murcia "he said.

'The Inheritance of Paper' sets out to an enjoyable way of the art history of this industry in our region and its evolution over four centuries and, particularly, about the life of our ancestors as printing and society Printing and knowledge are inevitably linked concepts.

Thus, in this exhibition are invited to contemplate bibliographic treasures, to explore the technical development of the publishing industry, to appreciate its aesthetic development, know the issues of greatest interest to readers of every age and enjoy the secrets that hold each books on display.

The cabinets contain among other documents: the first book printed in Spain, Murcia, woodcut initials and typographical ornaments of the XVII century XVIII century cartoons; Historiography Murcia, medicine illustrated, engraved on metal and wood, primary and secondary education or religious observances civilians.

Upon completion of the sample in the Regional Library, will be made subject facsimile documents that were part of an exhibition that will tour local libraries in the region.
