The current President of the European Mobility Week, Klaus Bondam, Mayor of Copenhagen, has congratulated the City of Murcia on his appointment as the headquarters of the Forum and has offered its support to the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, to conduct an effective transition.
Klaus Bondam explained that "the role of Murcia on the last European Mobility meeting held in Vienna has been instrumental in increasing the presence of the cities of South East Europe Sustainable Mobility policies in the coming years," compelling reason for the city to succeed, the unanimity of the countries represented at the Forum, the victory in the election for President held a few days ago.
Murcia over the coming years will be the official headquarters of the largest network of European cities, the so-called European Mobility Forum (Eurocities).
Founded in 1986, Eurocities provides a platform to which they belong to 30 European countries for its members to share knowledge, exchange experiences, to discuss common problems and develop enterprise solutions through forums, workshops, projects, activities and events.
Within weeks, the management team of Eurocities, based in Brussels and representatives of the City of Copenhagen will come to Murcia to make the transition more effectively.
Murcia will have its first official ceremony in The Hague in November 2008 and will kick off the biennial work agenda, where Murcia offers his commitment and contribution to the debate on urban mobility in Europe.
