The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, and the mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, today signed an agreement to rehabilitate the neighborhood of Los Almendros, in the village of La Alberca Murcia on the Autonomous Community, through the Housing and Land Institute, supports the Consistory Murcia with 1,100,000 euros.
The total construction budget amounts to 2,200,000 euros, an amount to be funded 50 percent by the Autonomous Region by 25 percent by the city of Murcia, which will provide 550,000 euros, and 25 percent by property owners who pay the remaining amount.
After signing the agreement, the Minister stressed that "the rehabilitation of facades and roofs of buildings in the Murcia area of Los Almendros is a public interest action and social benefit over 150 families in this area."
In this regard, the Minister added that "the comprehensive revitalization of this place will improve the quality of life for residents to dispose of solid, quality buildings that retain their original characteristics despite the passage of time, which ensures habitability appropriate to the needs of the tenants of the house. "
Also, Ballesta stressed that the agreement signed by both governments is to "address both the design of rehabilitation of an area with a total of 160 properties whose area exceeds 10,000 sq meters."
These works will improve the external form of buildings, will recover the character of the elements of the envelope of the property and remove or replace those who distort their identity.
It will also carry out the repair of structural and general facilities as required.
Rehabilitation of 151 housing
The neighborhood of Los Almendros de La Alberca, which has a population of over 10,000 inhabitants, is composed of social housing that were built between 1970 and 1974 to meet the needs of the underprivileged.
The district is set for a total of 160 properties distributed in 151 homes, 6 commercial and 3 parish.
The urban fabric is composed of four rectangular blocks built in blocks of two floors for group homes.
The neighborhood is bounded by the streets Calderon de la Barca in the north, Vallehermoso, south, Poeta Vicente Medina, east, and School Street to the west.
Performances in Santa Maria de Gracia and Vistabella
This project is part of all activities conducted by the Community, through the Housing and Land Institute, and the city of Murcia, to implement projects for rehabilitation of facades and roofs, which are also held in the buildings in the Santa Maria de Gracia and Vistabella due to high urban and architectural interest that both sets occur within the urban area of the city.
By this line of joint collaboration also isolated actions were undertaken in the district of La Paz and El Castillejo.
The comprehensive recovery plan promoted by the City Council districts and the Autonomous Region in recent years has reached an investment of 14.5 million euros, and 1,056 families have benefited Vistabella, 505 Santa Maria de Gracia, 107 blocks Bernal, 100 de La Paz, 80 of the Plaza de las Palmeras, and 61 in Los Rosales, El Palmar.
In view of the results of interventions implemented and the great interest shown by local residents, the authorities concerned decided to extend the territorial scope of the initial project to new sites within the municipality of Murcia, as the district of Los Almendros de La Alberca.
After signing the agreement, shall constitute a Joint Monitoring Committee composed of representatives of both the autonomous community and the council, which will monitor the works managed by Urbamusa.
