Cooperation between the Council and the Regional Government will make Los Almendros in a new neighborhood (10/11/2008)

The collaboration between the city of Murcia and the Regional Government will allow to address the comprehensive rehabilitation of the neighborhood of Los Almendros, La Alberca.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, and the Director of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, this morning signed a collaboration agreement containing the conditions that will enable developing these reclamation works of the facades and roofs, which amount 2.2 million euros.

The event was held at the headquarters of Sociocultural Promotion Center of Los Almendros and has been attended by some fifty neighbors.

The works will affect the 160 buildings that make up the neighborhood, of which 151 are residential, commercial and 3 6 local parish.

Forecasts indicate that the intervention will be completed in 2011.

El barrio de los Almendros, which reside about 1,000 people, was promoted earlier in the decade of the 70 with a very particular urban fabric as it is comprised of four rectangular blocks, built in blocks of two floors.

Is bounded by the streets Calderon de la Barca (North), Vallehermoso (South), Poeta Vicente Medina (East) and Schools (West).

50% of the cost of rehabilitation is financed by the Autonomous Community, through the Institute for Housing and Land in the Region of Murcia, and the remaining 50% shall be paid in equal shares, the City of Murcia and the homeowners.

2,000 families benefited from 7 interventions

This agreement is part of the line of cooperation established in recent years on the initiative of the City Council and the Institute for Housing and Land in the Region of Murcia, which has performed in recent years the rehabilitation of facades and roofs of houses located in the Santa Maria de Gracia and Vistabella, among other actions.

Cooperation between the two administrations in the full recovery of neighborhoods has meant an investment of 12.3 million euros and it has benefited 1,909 families Vistabella (1,056), Santa María de Gracia (505), blocks Bernal (107) , La Paz (100), Plaza de las Palmeras (80) and Los Rosales de El Palmar (61).

Intervention within the district of Los Almendros de La Alberca total investment will amount to EUR 14.5 million and the beneficiaries are 2,060 families.
