A student participates in the encounters Murcia Model Parliament held in Slovakia (07/11/2008)

A student of 2nd year of IES Floridablanca in Murcia, Andrés Muñoz Rojo, will participate in the meetings of the Model European Parliament held in Bratislava (Slovakia) from tomorrow until November 15 after taking part in the contest 'Model of the European Parliament '(MEP), managed by the St. Patrick Foundation, in collaboration with the Obra Social Caja Madrid and supported by government agencies, which involved more than 23,000 students from all over Spain.

In September last year, this student, several classmates and Professor of Contemporary History Center, José María Fernández Navarrete, took part, along with students from nine regions, at different stages (regional, national and international) competition .

Participants had to submit a paper on six themes proposed by the Model Parliament.

Andrés Muñoz conducted a study on "Piracy and copyright, 'and his work was selected among the six who represented Murcia, into the National MEP to be the later of the 20 international delegates.

The international delegates were selected from nearly 300 young people participated in the five program sessions held this year in Spain, four sessions Autonomic, Andalusia, Castilla y León, Valencia and Madrid, and the National Session VIII.

The 282 participants in the session were those who made the best jobs, a total of over 23,000 students in 388 schools registered.

The conference to be held in Bratislava, the student will present a topic Murcia on the problem of alcohol consumption among young people and possible measures to combat their excess, to the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety.

The MEP was created in 1994 to encourage young people a sense of European identity.

It is a way to familiarize students with the functioning of the bodies of the European Union, through the recreation of parliamentary sessions.

Students work in mock parliamentary sessions in which they express their ideas, discuss issues of interest and try to reach consensus on relevant issues of today.

Students may participate Baccalaureate and Middle Level Training Cycles of 16 and 17 years, and must have a good command of English, it is the language that develops the international meetings.
