The director of the Institute for Youth notes that immigration is "an opportunity for mutual enrichment" (22/10/2008)

The University of Murcia hosts until Friday an international conference on intercultural dialogue in which teachers from different Spanish universities and other experts will discuss issues related to coexistence and communication between cultures, European politics and mass migration.

The director of the Institute for Youth, Veronica Lopez, attended the opening ceremony of this conference was also attended by the rector of the University of Murcia, José Antonio Cobacho, Councillor for Health and Social Services City of Murcia, Fulgencio Cervantes The president of the Platform for volunteers in the region, María Jesús Lacárcel, and the organizing committee president, Alfonso Garcia.

This forum takes place in the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue and one of Spain's regions receiving large numbers of immigrants.

For three days the participants of this meeting will discuss the processes of communication and dialogue between different cultures living within and outside our country.

Lopez said that "we understand immigration, and so we want to move young people as an opportunity for mutual enrichment.

For those who come because they do so with the hope of finding new opportunities, and we are here because we can make our life experience that is immigration. "

The forum's objectives is to raise awareness about the need for skilled and active citizens to take advantage that provide cross-cultural relations through the associations and voluntary.

Thus, Congress 'intercultural dialogue' is meant to draw a profile more accessible, supportive and tolerant of the reality of cultural pluralism which we live.

So, will address key issues such as the conditions that must be taken to encourage an ongoing dialogue between cultures.

The conference is organized by the University of Murcia and Platform for Volunteering, and has the support of the Autonomous Community, the Youth Institute and the city of Murcia.
