Scientists at the University of Murcia have won the "Fleming 2008", organized by the Spanish Society of Microbiology, by research that has made progress in understanding the protection of cells when they are in unfavorable environmental conditions.
The study, published in the American magazine "Molecular Biology of the Cell", has increased the knowledge that had so far on the pathways involved in cellular protection against adverse environmental conditions.
Researchers have found especially "how to modulate aspects of form and control cell division."
The scientists concluded that "as the analyzed system is analogous to that of higher organisms, the extrapolation mechanisms revealed findings to human cells."
The authors of the research have shown for the first time the existence of interaction between two distinct routes of protein known as MAP kinases. "
This work was developed by Professors Teresa Soto, Jero Vicente, Mariano José STAP and tired, and our scholars, Marisa Madrid, Andrés Núñez, all of the research group Microbial Physiology at the University of Murcia.
