An exhibition will tour several schools to raise awareness of the lives of 14 women involved in mathematics (09/10/2008)

The collaboration between the Department of Social Welfare, the Department of Culture and a group of teachers from the region of the Mar Menor has allowed the exhibition 'Women mathematics', which was exhibited at the Museum of Science and Water, now scroll six schools, a health center and a women's center.

From now until December 19 the exhibition will be at the Instituto Alfonso X the Wise, the hospital classrooms Arrixaca, Galea Cipriano school, the school Our Lady of Consolation, the school Santa Maria del Carmen, College Our Lady of Fuensanta Jesus Maria, Doctor Pedro Guillen Institute and Center for Women's Fleet.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is the life of fourteen women mathematicians and their contributions to the scientific field, from antiquity to the present day.

In addition, it will highlight the cultural and social difficulties they have faced in order to develop his passion for mathematics.

These 14 women are Tena, Hypatia, Emilie du Châtelet, Maria Gaetana Agnesi, Caroline Herschel, Sophie Germain, Mary Somerville, Ada Byron Lovelace, Florence Nighttingale, Sofia Kovalevskaya, Emmy NoetherGrace Chishlolm, Grace Murray Hopper and Emma Castelnuovo.

In addition to showing the biographies of these fourteen women bring to visitors a series of twelve games and eleven activities.

The games are related to logic, Chance, combinations ... and call centers of gravity, middle path, eurocapicúa, mathematical puzzle, sea sticks, mosaics, stripes of six points, the club topologists, the trileros, fishing numbers, puzzles and geometric paths.

Activities dealing with proposals made by Hypatia, Tena, Grace Chisholm, Mary Somerville and Ada Byron.
