The City points to the good environmental practices in sport (01/10/2008)

Murcia City Council adds to an agreement signed between the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) to implement environmental and sustainability criteria to the sport at the local level.

The 'Green Games' aims to promote good practices for sustainability and raise awareness and environmental awareness in the world of sport.

Thus, environmental considerations are integrated in sporting events, the design and construction of new facilities, existing sports facilities and sporting bodies.

Among other things, take into account the architecture and sustainable building, water conservation, efficiency and energy diversification, renewable energy, waste reduction, reuse and recycling of waste, reducing air emissions, noise pollution reduction, protection of green areas and biodiversity, promoting sustainable mobility, combat sedentary ...

At the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, articulated the Agenda 21 action plan that aims at preserving the environment and the promotion of sustainable development.

In 1999, the IOC approved the Olympic Movement's Agenda 21 and declared the environment as a third pillar of Olympism, alongside sport and culture.

Recently it has created the Environment Committee within the Spanish Olympic Committee and approaches have been implemented environmental projects such as the Madrid 2012 Olympic bid.
