41 International Folk Festival in the Mediterranean will be held from 9 to 12 September (14/08/2008)

The International Folklore Festival in the Mediterranean, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, held from 9 to 12 September 2008 its forty-first edition, which makes it the longest lived of all the festivals that are celebrated not only in the city of Murcia and Murcia but throughout the Spanish state.

This festival has been a source of other festivals held in the Region of Murcia, has endured stakes new shuttle feasts and dates.

The festival has as general objectives include:

-Approximation of folklore to the public making it easy and enjoyable.

-Join modernity and tradition.

-Provide the festival with more cultural content and study.

-Promote the city of Murcia, customs and heritage.

Therefore, in parallel to the street performances, offers a cycle of activity streets and squares as well as the headquarters of the festival stage exhibitions, studies and papers on folklore, traditional folk performances, readings, recitations and dialogues the Mediterranean Sea as its centerpiece.

The schedule is as follows:

"COME DANCE WITH U.S."

· Actions in squares, roads, markets and Senior Centers of San Basilio and Espinardo.

Dances of folklore groups participating in the main city on the nights of festival, after the actions taken center stage in the University Square.

EXHIBITIONS

· Exhibition of paintings: "The sea and peace"

8 º SEMINAR FOLKLORE AND ETHNOGRAPHY

To create a documentary in which stakeholders and researchers to work and study on folklore and traditions of our region.

The seminar will involve the collaboration of the Museum of the City, which made the reading of various papers, with free access to full capacity.

The papers are:

· "On the feast of Corpus Christi at the time of the Catholic Kings" by Consuelo Prats Redondo.

· "Memories of a huertano it still is" by Antonio Rosell Velázquez "The Lilies."

· "A glance through the streets of Murcia and their unions" by Emilio Estrella Sevilla.

· "Traditional system of weather forecasting through nature.

The cabañuelas "by Jose Buitrago Gutiérrez.

CYCLE "FILM AND FOLKLORE"

Screening of three films in the Spanish films marking content ethnographic, anthropological or folklore, which show the different aspects of dance, music, traditions, lifestyles, work, etc ....

Projections on folklore and traditions of the city of Murcia and our region, in the auditorium of the Moneo building.

This will have the collaboration of CAM - Caja del Mediterráneo.

Medina Bardón "Men in Red" (on the development of pepper) and "Silk."

Antonio Medina Bardón (Murcia 1922 to 1996).

Merchant by profession, artist by vocation and amateur filmmaker, called the master of those who have had contact with the amateur theater in Murcia.

He began his work as producer and cameraman in 1953 with Antonio Crespo.

He was a man of universal culture and tireless traveler, which allowed him to learn on the spot the new trends and new amateur filmmaking techniques.

Developed an extensive and important career in film characterized by a clear vocation for experimental film.

He received numerous awards.

"Men in Red" - Documentary 16 mm, 160 m., color ..

1967

Director: Antonio Medina Bardón

Plot: Documentary about the collection and processing of pepper paprika.

Calvary displayed images of Alhama de Murcia, of great value as a historical document, given the urban transformation of the area later.

Comment: Shows great concern for color and rhythm.

It was as a result of purchasing a copy of the British film Piston Polka.

Some sequences of the film seem to correspond to a ballet where the machines dance to the beat of the soundtrack.

"Silk" - Documentary 16 mm, 130 m, color.

1969.

Director: Antonio Medina Bardón

Plot: ethnographic documentary on silkworm breeding and the development of it.

Comments: Used to shoot close-up lenses and close-ups close-ups of the worms, by an ingenious tube which extended the target.

The accompanying music is unfragmented chosen as the zarzuela "La Parranda" but in this copy because of the poor sound, has had to change the original sound.

· Projection of the documentary "This gives the can.

History of the canning industry in the Region of Murcia. "

Director and producer Juan María Prieto Gambín.

Argument: "When in the late nineteenth century in the southeast Spanish installed the first canned food factories, no one could imagine that in Murcia, would take place the creation of one of the largest and most powerful in the world canneries.

It was the initiative, tenacity and courage of some men and women, which made the province of Murcia was known on five continents as a synonym for high quality products, skilled traders and delivered.

This documentary is a tribute to all who helped make the dream become a reality and a journey through the canning industry Murcia in more than one hundred years of history. "

· Projection of "NO-DO: Murcia, hamlets and towns of the Region of Murcia."

The documents presented in these sessions are for film material from the Spanish Film Library and the Regional Film Archive that is making possible the recovery of the presence of Murcia in the NO-DO through his research.

"Hours"

Physical space and time for the creation and recreation, for sensitivity.

At the Museum of the City will create a physical space and time at which readings were made, declamations, dialogues.

TRADITIONS

On this occasion we will have the presence of "The Cherro" of Zeneta.

This is a conclusion that holds its roots in pagan interpretations of the spring solstice.

The Cherro are men dressed in rags and straw, painted face whiteners, linked together with string and bells sound to walk the streets asking for a contribution that, originally, was for the brotherhood of the Rosary and Animas.
