Salzillo Museum expands its facilities and poses a greater and better knowledge of the sculptor, his time and his work (30/07/2008)

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pedro Alberto Cruz, this morning the new museum project Salzillo Museum, which will significantly increase the chances of spreading the work of the famous sculptor Murcia.

At the event participated Museum director, Maria Teresa Marín, the president of the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno, Rafael Cebrián, and the author of the project architect, Pablo Puente.

The architectural design of bridge extends exposure meters and allows the institution to have a temporary exhibition hall in the basement, where he is making the improvement and adaptation of the storage rooms of works of art with the installation of a new lift-lift that will allow greater mobility of collections and access to this area of people with disabilities, which will remove a major barrier architecture.

Pedro Alberto Cruz is striking in this regard that "after completion of the work, the Museum will have a continuous program of exhibitions throughout the year on topics related to life and work of our sculptor, which will add new claims to its own permanent exhibition. "

This room will have a separate entrance, which will facilitate public access.

The new museum discourse created by the director, Maria Teresa Marin, along with Pablo Puente, allows a better understanding of the life and work of Francisco Salzillo, in conjunction with their time and the history of the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno.

The tour will begin, as usual, on the third floor, with an introductory room where visitors will learn the history of the museum.

Then you will enter the room stands the church of Jesus, which explains the rich history of the Brotherhood, founded in 1600, read in conjunction with the history of Murcia between the XVII and XX.

This tour will allow visitors a better contextualization of the figure of Salzillo and his work, as well as the importance of Jesus' church, exclusive of the Brotherhood headquarters, where since the eighteenth century, preserved and displayed the magnificent steps devised by the sculptor Murcia, which was awarded from the past, international fame.

The Minister of Culture has shown that "knowledge of the biography and the context in which unfolded Salzillo art will better understand many of the consequences in the form of work, shown here."

Salzillo Francisco's biography will be an issue in the next room, including their representation and artistic and literary characterization over time.

There will be an area dedicated to the work destroyed by old photographs which disclose view pictures disappeared during the Civil War and that will take us elsewhere in the region, such as Cartagena.

This room will also house some of the works housed.

The Hall of Bethlehem will have a new semiplanta allowing for the inclusion of a small workshop area for educational activities and a large area devoted to the recreation of a Baroque workshop and contemplation of the extraordinary individual Salzillo sketches, representing one of the first steps in the laborious process of creating a sculpture in painted wood.

This area will be illuminated by natural light from the skylights, so it will look like a typical artist's studio.

The area below is intended to display the famous Bethlehem, Riquelme or collection, as termed in the past, which will be remounted in the form of diorama, respecting the biblical story, but with a minimal set design that emphasizes the quality and beauty of small images, some of them masterpieces.

At the end of the room sizes will be placed Veronica and San Juan, in an area intended to introduce visitors to the beautiful morning of Friday Murcia.

The visit will conclude at the church of Jesus, the true apotheosis of a journey through time, life and work of famous artist.
