Networks, chosen as an example of integration (15/07/2008)

Networks Program for the Recreation Department of Youth and Employment of the City of Murcia, in their first semester, has conducted activities for 13 weekends.

During these 39 days of activities have involved 16,159 young people - 9140 boys and 7019 girls.

This represents a total of more than 1243 participants each weekend.

For this period it has tried to innovate with activities that encourage participation and energizing weekend of youth.

Notably, the "Networking Programme leisure" has been a pioneer in participation, integration and inclusion in their activities of youth with disabilities in its activities nationwide.

Therefore, it has been selected among a large number of proposals nationwide for the "Fourth National Conference of Best Practices" organized FEAPS (Federation of Organizations for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy) to be held in the Canary Islands in November.

This Congress has expressly invited to the Youth Council of the City of Murcia as the Networking Programme an example for other institutions and administrations in the management and delivery of leisure activities for people with intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy .

Network has since 2005 involved in developing activities that would fit young Murcia with disabilities.

We have developed various activities among which include: Multi Aquatic Batuka, Terra Mitica, Latin Dance, Nordic Skiing, Fishing, Hiking, Cooking, Terra Natura, Table Tennis, Oceanography, Painting, Sailing - Windsurfing - Canoeing, balloon twisting, Terra Nature - Water Park Corporal Expression, activities in the gardens, guitar, Sevillanas, Equine, Aerobic.

Network aims to facilitate the relationship between young people of the municipality in leisure at the weekend, boosting elements conducive to the choice of options, with a wide range of sporting, recreational, cultural, supportive, healthy, enriching the enjoyment Leisure and free time of young Murcia.

This has been the basis for programming activities during February to June of this year.

Networking the first half of 2008 began on Friday February 8 and ended on Sunday June 15, with 13 weekends of activities.

As a goal we set out to overcome the more than 1,000 participants per weekend, a goal that we have for this semester has been an increase of almost 200 young people each weekend more participation than last year.

We have also exceeded more than 70 activities each weekend which is compared to the previous edition an increase of more than 10 activities each weekend.

This semester is designed not only to maintain high levels of participation of our youth, but to overcome them, thus promoting alternative activities for the leisure of young Murcia during the weekend.

In terms of activities throughout this semester program, including:

The achievements of this semester due to the expansion of program hours, Thursday through Sunday, and also to get to as many places as well as enrich the activities in which the program is already established, especially in districts as Torreagüera, Beniaján, Zeneta, El Palmar, Patiño, and places new and Monteagudo, Las Lumbreras, La Cueva.

The most sought after activities have been the different dances such as:

Latin Dance, Flamenco, Tango, Break dance, Salsa initiation, Advanced Salsa, Belly Dance, Sevillanas, Ballroom dancing, Hip hop, and sports Batuka as:

Championship Sports: Football-room, Aerobics, Basketball, School of female football, indoor football, flag football, Acrobatic Gymnastics, Table Tennis, Tennis, MINITENNIS, Fencing and Self defense for girls (16-30 years).

Workshops have also highlighted the computer as web design, blogging, Spanish guitar, electric guitar and leather crafts, recycling, decorating, bracelets, balloon twisting, and other special courses such as several days, both cooking and astronomy.

Among the outdoor activities have made an outstanding demand of skiing and climbing in March, and in the second quarter was to double the places for diving and triple baptism of the squares of the trip to Terra Mitica.

Leisure Networks continues to offer young people a new way to use their free time in a healthy, playful, and above all varied taking into account their preferences and encouraging youth participation of young people in our region.
