The Governing Council today authorized the creation Murcia University School of Optics, by breakdown of the Faculty of Chemistry.
The School of Optics was a need for individualized management of the teaching of the Diploma in Optics and graduate programs (Master and PhD) and research in this field of knowledge, which are groups of top-level research international.
The major research groups, most of Excellence, which houses the School, partnerships at the international level, the research project carried out and the transfer of results into practice, advised the establishment of this School, leader in optical technology and vision, which will house more than 500 students and about 50 teachers.
Its funding is provided for in the investment program of the Autonomous Community of Murcia for the University under the Financing Agreement 2007-2011, which will be financed by ERDF.
The budget of 2008 provides for the amount of 2,306,252 euros.
The creation of this school has been a goal of the University of Murcia for several years and also a need to dissociate itself from the Faculty of Chemistry.
While it was something positive in the first place to optimize resources, at present the teachings of Optics are important enough to be managed from a central self.
