Nine young Murcia travel to less developed countries this summer thanks to a new city program (24/06/2008)

Nine young Murcia travel this summer in their vacation time to four countries to make cooperation work within the Plan which this year starts out as entirely new initiative, driven by the Department of Youth and Development Cooperation.

At the invitation of the Municipal Youth Volunteers were presented 40 requests for participation and they have been selected a total of nine.

The projects developed in Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Morocco are subsidized by the city of Murcia.

Young people have received a training course on volunteering for Cooperation with the participation of representatives of the University of Murcia, the UCAM and NGOs participating in the project.

The young people will leave on July 1 at their destinations and return on 30 September.

Murcia City Council makes the return trip, medical insurance, travel and liability, and pocket money.

Young volunteers have committed to participate with the city of Murcia and Murcia Welcomes NGOs, Community Development Institute Foundation and Caritas diagram in a campaign on youth and development cooperation with special emphasis on projects that collaborate , with the aim of raising awareness among people from Murcia and let them know the work that NGOs develop Murcia will take place from the month of January 2009.

The Department of Youth and Employment and Development Cooperation have designed a new city program aimed at providing young Murcia the opportunity to participate actively in the development of volunteer work in disadvantaged countries.

The destinies of these actions, which will be held in July, August and September to take place in countries that carry out projects implemented through NGOs Murcia.

Through this experience is providing a total of 9 young people aged 21 and 30 years of training techniques work on the ground for development cooperation projects and to facilitate contacts between young people from different countries.

The municipal program for Youth Volunteers in cooperation arises from the existence of a great social sensitivity regarding cooperation and solidarity with the less developed countries: the constant demand for information on volunteer positions in international cooperation projects in the City Council and demonstrated.

Once at their destination, the young volunteers to carry out cooperation functions consistent with their professional profile, engaging in direct action with the native population and participating in social-type programs that run in your area.

Cooperation actions will be developed with special emphasis on the most disadvantaged and poor.

Preferably take place in the countries of Latin America, North Africa and the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Murcia City Council gives young people selected a course of international cooperation, accidents, disease and civil responsibility and the organization and the cost of return travel.

For its part, the NGOs will provide room and board.
