Note that this is a natural space of 50,000 square meters dedicated to education and environmental awareness, and located just 10 miles from the center of Murcia.
This is an environment of high natural interest, near Valley Regional Park Carrascoy and in the foothills of the Sierra de Columbares and included in the SPA (Special Protection Area for birds) and Monte El Valle and Altaona Saws Escalona.
Through the different activities "Columbares Power" aims to study and analyze the different environmental problems in the Region of Murcia, while facilitating knowledge management and alternative models using different resources: energy, water, waste, etc.
It also works directly on issues related to erosion and desertification, and it hosts many activities around improving our biodiversity, working always in the context of environmental education and sustainable development.
The Environmental and Energy Center Solar Power Columbares is, energetically speaking, a mixed farm - PV isolation, so that energy from solar and wind get all the power.
The elements present in the center related to renewable energy are:
Photovoltaic solar panels for electricity generation (10 photovoltaic modules of 1.2 kW each).
Thermal solar panels to generate heat for hot water and heating.
Wind turbine (5 kW.) For electricity generation.
Fireplace biomass for heat generation by underfloor heating.
It uses a boiler that is fueled by wood, and water tank for heat transfer through the floor heating.
To obtain a zero balance in CO2 emissions, were planted in the grounds of the Center for a total of 12,000 trees (Aleppo pine, wild olive and carob) that will provide the necessary wood.

EDUCATIONAL OFFER
The main focus of activity Columbares Source focuses on the activities of environmental education and awareness aimed at schools and other groups of citizens of the Region of Murcia.
The program of activities and workshops that the Centre offers different schools in the Region of Murcia are tailored to different educational levels of participants, and with them is to:
Complement the work of schools through the empowerment of the contents of an existing environmental curricula.
To facilitate understanding of environmental issues affecting the Region of Murcia and awareness of them.
Create positive behaviors towards the environment encouraging creativity, directing it towards the development of proposals to promote the treatment and prevention of environmental problems.
The recipients of the activities are educational institutions of different academic levels, from kindergarten to high school, of the municipality of Murcia.
Climate change and renewable energy, knowledge of biodiversity, the importance of water, erosion control and waste problems are the five thematic areas in which the educational structure.
In total, 19 groups are those who visited the Columbares Source in 2007, with a participation of over a thousand schools (nursery, primary and secondary).
In addition to educational opportunities offered to schools during the month of July also received the visit of summer schools.
The last year were the cultural centers of Casillas, Cobatillas, El Raal and Santa Cruz.
