The Mayor opened a bust in honor of the father Joseíco (14/06/2008)

The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, inaugurated this morning a bust in tribute to the late priest José Martínez Aparicio, known locally as the father Joseíco.

José Martínez Aparicio was born in La Palma (Cartagena).

After ordination he held the dignity of coadjutor in Espinardo, to take charge of the parish of Santa Maria de Gracia and finally to San Francisco Javier, San Antón, which prompted the foundation and construction as the Holy Spirit parish Espinardo, and Consolation (new) in Molina de Segura.

Miguel Angel House has stressed that "after 40 years of priesthood, Father Joseíco gained great popularity throughout the region, helped by his affable character and committed to the poor."

He was also a great promoter of devotion to the Virgin of Fuensanta and actively collaborated with the Hermandad del Rocío de Murcia, where he was chaplain.

Among his achievements, he coordinated the construction of the residence of elderly El Amparo in the Verdolay, earning him the award Laurel Murcia and was named an adopted son of the city.

Worked with the sick of the Hospitality of Our Lady of Lourdes, and attended religious services in schools and convents.

Now a few months ago, a group of former employees, along with the pastor of San Francisco Javier, San Antón, Jorge Rodriguez, and the painter José Alcaraz, promoted this recognition.

The bust has been funded by public subscription and the City of Murcia has been responsible for installation, including the construction of the base of the monument was inaugurated today at the door of the church of San Francisco Javier.
