The granting of a new program by the Urban European Union will mean the total renovation of the district Espinardo Holy Spirit, to give it the services, infrastructure and equipment to reclaim their neighbors.
The area councilor in charge of European Programmes, Fatima Barnuevo, expressed his satisfaction that Murcia will benefit from the aid of -7.5 million euros from the European Development Fund (ERDF), since the investment will contribute to economic regeneration, environmental and social urban area.
Create a neighborhood of the Holy Spirit with the times and the needs of its residents is the goal it has set the government team to revitalize the life of this area Espinardo neighborhood.
All municipal departments involved in this ambitious project to tackle a complete remodeling of the Holy Spirit, in which 4,000 people living near and requires a major social action, as has been done already in the district of Murcia La Purisima.
Support for self-employment and enterprise creation, training and information on equal opportunities and enhance the cultural factor as an integrator are some of the pillars which support this project, approved under the name "Urban Murcia: integrated urban development neighborhood Espinardo Holy Spirit ", which envisages a total investment of 10.7 million euros, of which 70% -7.5 million, is financed by the European Union and 30% by the City Council -3.2 million.
The aid comes from the line of "Local and Urban Development" of the 2007-2013 Regional Operational Programmes financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
Eight are the cornerstones on which structure the activities of the project: promotion of culture, information society, improving the urban environment, enhancing energy efficiency and social inclusion programs, development of the economic and employment promotion, citizen participation, information and advertising, management, monitoring and evaluation of actions, always with the pattern of improving equal opportunities for all, respect the environment and citizen participation.
The shares will be distributed as follows:
• Culture: In order to change the image of the neighborhood, restoring self-esteem of the residents and create a climate of cooperation to maintain a creative community, while also reducing school failure and improve prospects for young people.
One of the main action is to recover the cultural center as a meeting place and their output, with the support of the library as a meeting place and training in new technologies.
This will build on programs of cultural events aimed at all segments of the population.
The construction of a center of artistic creation and cultural production in the grounds of the Cultural Center will support these initiatives.
• Information Society: Through the development of public services for access to information technologies and by promoting Internet access for all will try to promote technological literacy.
• Improvement of urban environment: The project aims to improve the quality of urban environment and improve the living conditions of residents through sustainable urban regeneration.
This will address measures to reorganize and improve public spaces and roads that exist around housing, will be redeployed equipment and iconic public buildings and increase green areas, recreational facilities and living, so that this space be open to the rest of the city to make it an attractive, safe and healthy.

• Improved energy efficiency: The installation of solar and thermal plants in constructed facilities, such as the Cultural Center, the college Francisco Salzillo social service center and new facilities to achieve a 10% current consumption.

• Development of the economy and improving employment: The project includes three general measures: improved integration opportunities for unemployed people, support for self-employment and entrepreneurship and a training on equal opportunities to promote the reconciliation of work and personal life.
• Civic Engagement: This is to strengthen partnerships to support sustainable community development and sustainable.
A total of 102 nominations were submitted to receive the aid, of which 43 received assistance from the European funds.
