The Governing Council authorized the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport and RENFE to continue the provision of rail services agreed between Murcia and Cartagena, which involves the provision, by the Autonomous Community of 1,345. 312 euros.
The agreement between the two institutions began in 1998 to promote rail transport between the two cities by increasing the number of services, diversifying and increasing the frequency times throughout the day to promote relations of all kinds between the two cities, both commercial, leisure, study or work.
The agreed services between Murcia and Cartagena maintain the regional category of medium-range since they extend the traditional services provided by Renfe Regional Express train from Valencia, Murcia and Cartagena, which amounted to a morning service that, from Valencia, Murcia to Cartagena leaves at 19:45 and one in the afternoon, from Cartagena to Murcia, which continues to Valencia, departing at 16:43 arriving in Cartagena and Murcia at 17:40, all days a week.
The other services that affect the agreement are: Murcia-Cartagena Trip: Monday to Friday 6 times daily with departures from Murcia to 7.40, 9.34, 12.05, 14.35, 18.05 and 21 45.
Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, only two services daily at 12.05 and 21.45.
Cartagena-Murcia route: Monday to Friday six departures daily services of Cartagena at 7.35, 9.47, 10.55, 14.30, 19.10 and 21.10.
On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, two daily services at 10.55 and 21.10.
Travel time between 50 and 55 minutes.
This service is carried on trains with 86 seats and with trains having twice the capacity for influx of students' schedules, maintaining the voucher 20, with 50 percent discount on general rates for students, faculty and staff of the University valid for 3 months to 20 trips.
A bond is widely accepted as assumed in the annuity 30,000 trips in 2006.
In 2006, the last year counted, the number of users was 88,231 passengers, an increase of 6.81 percent over 2005.
This agreement includes as a new realization, by Renfe, a study of mobility in middle-distance rail corridors and near to the adaptation of services to its coordination with other modes of transport and analysis for the renovation of trains more modern, where feasible, both agreed the relationship Murcia-Cartagena and Murcia-Valencia.
