The Mayor announced that Murcia has reduced its emissions 38,600 tons (05/06/2008)

Murcia has played in 8 months 36% of the measures envisaged in the plan, which extends horizon to 2012

Chamber appreciates the efforts made by individual Murcia, especially in reducing water consumption

Murcia has progressed a significant way in the last year in its fight against climate change.

From 2007 until today, the Council has adopted 37 measures that have first effect 38653.58 saving tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

These 37 actions mean that the Local Government has already fulfilled 36% of the total number of actions that make up its climate change strategy, adopted with a time horizon until 2012.

This balance has been in eight months, since the document was prepared and submitted in October.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, announced today the degree of compliance with the plan, of the commemoration of World Environment Day.

In this regard, the Chamber thanked the citizens for conducting individual effort "with his actions, to help ensure our future, which necessarily preserve our environment."

Particularly, the mayor has referred to the steady reduction of water consumption, "even in times like today, when we witnessed the overflowing of the river Ebro and how its water ends up in the sea."

The measures implemented have led to Murcia stop issuing more than 38,000 tons of CO2 in 2007 have exceeded thirty, but the most important in saving have been:

Photovoltaic installations at municipal (swimming pools, sports centers and schools): 132.7 tons CO2 / year

Placement of reducing consumption in the lighting: 281 tn CO2/year

Solar thermal systems in new buildings (from approval of the General Plan and to the approval of the Technical Building Code): 20,538 tons CO2 / year

Replacing conventional lights LED technology: 152 tn CO2/year

Efficient Christmas lights: 72 tn CO2/year

Generating electricity from methane generated by landfill biogas plant: 15,509 tons CO2 / year

Subsidies to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy use: 1,675 tn CO2/year

Service carpooling: 293 tn CO2/year

The rest of the steps that have been put in place are:

Gasification Plan parishes to promote the use of natural gas, which reaches to 32 neighborhoods and districts (10 this year).

ARGEM agreement with the use of biodiesel as fuel in public transport (Ray).

Programme "Intelligent Energy for Europe" promoting energy efficiency in public procurement, development of municipal energy plans and development and implementation of solar thermal ordinances.

Tax credits in Vehicle Tax (2008)

Promotion of cycling.

Installation of 60 advertising panels with battery collection container

Municipal network control air quality

Emission controls and noise

Noise map

Increasing the forest estate

Agreements with Columbares ADESGA and conservation of local forest parks.

Campaign "Plant for the Planet, Plant for Murcia

Conservation unpaved 80% of the parcels of undeveloped land

Award "Green Schools"

Promotion of public transport: tram implementation

Project "Walk 10,000 steps" for gardens and walkways.

"Covenant of Mayors" signed in Brussels to promote the fight against climate change at the local level.

Green Flag Award-City Manager, presented by the waste management, cleaning and gardening, environmental commitment, water management and environmental education and citizen participation.
