The first buses to use biodiesel will be the Lightning line 13 (10/04/2008)

The first green minibuses will be the Lightning Line 13.

Agreed upon by the commission meeting on 9 April and chaired by Councilwoman Urban and Environmental Quality, Adela Martinez-Cache, to develop a pilot project using biodiesel in public transport, and is formed by City Hall, the Agency Energy Management in the Region of Murcia (Argema) Latbus and the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change Murcia (ALEM).

In total there will be three vehicles using biodiesel, two Mercedes Sprinter vans and a bus of nine meters MAN.

In addition it was agreed that these vehicles must pass a technical inspection before the start of the experience and for periods of three to five months.

All these buses will have to be adapted and will be identified with the logos of Bio-nett and Intelligent Energy for Europe, badges that indicate that use biodiesel.

Biodiesel, in blends B-10 and B-20, is an oil similar to diesel fuel that is biodegradable, it does not pollute and is neutral in its emissions and generates no CO2.

In this way, it meets another of the measures that are part of the Local Strategy and Climate Change which included the gradual renewal of bus fleet by vehicles or low emission biofuels.

With this plan will be implemented over a hundred measures to be carried out before 2012 by which reduced by 20% CO2 emissions generated by urban activity.

Local Strategy to Combat Climate Change focuses on four main areas: Understanding emissions of greenhouse gases, reduce emissions from municipal activities, carry out measures to minimize the effects of climate change and raise awareness and sensitization population.
