Murcia supporting the establishment of sports facilities in schools that lack them Cuba (27/05/2008)

Murcia will contribute to the creation of sports facilities in Cuban schools.

This was reflected in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, and Vice President of National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation-INDER, "Alberto Juantorena.

Both the city of Murcia as INDER develop mechanisms for mutual cooperation to facilitate actions designed to promote sport in schools, especially in cities whose characteristics and population density areas lacking for the development of physical activity.

The agreement provides that the National Institute of Sport, Physical Education and Recreation of Cuba agrees to provide to the City of Murcia a list of areas and sports facilities that use the schools and to consider priorities in regard to the characteristics described in paragraph above.

Murcia City Council makes a commitment to contribute financially to the creation of these areas and sports facilities in schools, depending on budgetary availability of financial resources.

With the objective to develop mechanisms for mutual collaboration, combining efforts and resources to facilitate understanding, the development of education and culture, the city of Murcia includes economic forecasts annually earmarks development cooperation projects in accordance to international commitments, which will now be added the school sport in Cuba.

The protocol of intent signed today is based largely on the interest of the City of Murcia by promoting education policies geared to promoting sport as an educational tool on habits and healthy lifestyles, as well as formation of values.

Hence the decision to collaborate with INDER to contribute to the creation of sports fields or facilities that use the schools and in the interest and benefit of the community.

I Iberoamerican Summit School Sports

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, accompanied by the Head of Sports, Miguel Cascales, is these days in Havana to attend the First Ibero-American Summit of Physical Education and School Sport to be held from 28 to 31 May.

House will make a presentation on school sport and Olympism in Murcia, focus on the projects promoted by the city of Murcia in sport, especially the school sports program which each year attracted about 70,000 children.

The mayor also made an analysis of the relationship of Murcia with the Olympic movement, focusing on the upcoming launch of the Olympic Sports Center.
