Enter operating photovoltaic solar installations ten schools of Murcia (26/05/2008)

The Minister of Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning, Benito Mercader, accompanied by the Councillor for the Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez cache, and the Councillor for Education and Personal, Pilar Mejia, launched this morning a photovoltaic solar installations that have been implemented in ten schools, the result of the agreement signed between the Ministry, through the Energy Management Agency of the Region of Murcia (Argema), and the city of Murcia.

Merchant stressed the importance of these facilities, "not only because they serve to produce clean energy from the sun, oil from the region and in a decade that will prevent the emission of 120 tons of carbon dioxide, but also because they are an important tool awareness, in fact, each year 4,000 students will be able to learn how the solar energy in schools. "

Schools that have benefited from this initiative are: schools Our Lady of Bethlehem, Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente: Infanta Cristina, The Grove, Virgen de la Fuensanta, Cyprian Galea, Our Lady of Arrixaca and the College of Our Lady of Fuensanta, as well as the IES Miguel de Cervantes and Marqués de los Vélez.

All were selected for their activities related to environmental stewardship.

"Besides raising awareness, especially to future generations, the need for energy with environmentally friendly, this facility will bring economic benefits, since the electricity produced, 2,100 kilowatt hours, poured on the power grid," said Mercader.

Therefore, these benefits will be devoted to the purchase of educational material related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.

'10MINIFOT '

The project, called '10MINIFOT ', which has set up ten schools energy "green" stems from the agreement signed by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning and the City of Murcia, with the ultimate goal to inform students and teachers the chance that solar energy provides for the generation of electricity in a clean and friendly environment.

'10MINIFOT 'Is an educational, nonprofit, consisting of the establishment of 10 solar photovoltaic installations connected to the grid of 1.5 kilowatts, as many schools in the municipality of Murcia.

Facilities boards are composed of ten mono-crystalline photovoltaic modules, whose production is 1,400 equivalent hours.

This will help to prevent the emission of 120 tons of carbon dioxide in the next decade.

Infrastructures have been implemented in compliance with the maximum safety and architectural integration, and the site has been agreed with the heads of schools to avoid any problems with students.

Such facilities will be operational for at least the next 20 years.

The total investment budget amounts to EUR 120,000, of which 50 percent is paid by the city of Murcia and the rest by the Ministry, through the Energy Management Agency of the Region of Murcia.
