A Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Bishop José Manuel Lorca Planes, was the main event of the commemoration of the 575 anniversary of the founding of the village of Puebla de Soto, once acquired the Charter of Population (New Puebla Murcia).
The Mayor, José Ballesta, the president of the Municipal Board, Galera Francisco Zamora, the pastor, Ramon Hernandez Salvador, and many local residents attended the ceremony, which has performed the musical association of Puebla de Soto.
The Charter of population was granted by the Portuguese noble and royal adviser, Don Alonso Fernandez de Cascales, and ratified by King Juan II of Castile, the December 24, 1440, which led him also creating a new parish, honor the Mother of God of Mercy and Mercedes, former patron of Puebla de Soto.
His image, popularly known as the captives, is one of the jewels of imagery, Gothic sculpture of the fifteenth century, one of the oldest iconography that comprise the region.
Currently, and since last December, with the opening of the jubilee year of Mercy, the patron saint of the parish is located in the main altar of the Cathedral and there will continue until November 20.
Moreover, the celebration took place in the Cathedral because that way it has been possible to place a wreath at the tomb close to Puxmarines, specifically in the chapel of San Juan Nepomuceno, tomb of a descendant of the founder Don Alonso Fernandez de Cascales, who as she says "Don Alonso Rodrigo de Castilla y Zayas, a descendant of Peter I of Castile, Perpetual Regidor of the City of Murcia, Knight of the Order of Calatrava and Lord Jurisdictional of Puebla Villas of Santarén and Torremillanos, and grandfather of the first Marqués de Iscar in Seville.
