The City of Murcia joins commissions Social Welfare and International Relations of the FEMP (26/01/2016)

Establish a comprehensive social welfare policy and the maximum and strengthen the participation of Local Governments in the international sphere are the two key roles of both councils, in which the mayors Conchita Ruiz and Maria del Carmen Pelegrin are integrated.

The Mayor, José Ballesta today attended the Board of Governors and Territorial Council held this morning in Madrid.

Murcia City Council will be present at two of the committees that make up the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, responsible for conducting studies and formulating proposals on issues directly related to the purposes of the FEMP.

Specifically, the mayors Conchita Ruiz and Maria del Carmen Pelegrin have been appointed members of the committees of Social Welfare and International Relations of the FEMP, according to the agreement reached this morning.

The head of Social Rights of the City of Murcia will be part of a board that has among its main objectives the development of studies and formulating proposals on issues related to social services, including proposals that constitute a basic instrument to establish a comprehensive social policy and the achievement of maximum social welfare.

Conchita Ruiz The commission will work on the definition of actions to promote the integration of those groups that are in situations of social disadvantage, helping them to overcome their difficulties to improve their quality of life.

For his part, Councillor of Commerce, Organization and Institutional Relations, María del Carmen Pelegrin, has been appointed as a member of a committee that has among its main objectives to strengthen the participation of local governments in the international arena by promoting work networking, exchange of experiences and participation in European projects.

At the same time, direct their duties towards the consolidation of participation and promote an active presence in international bodies in which the FEMP has institutional representation, including Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the Spanish Section of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CLRAE), among others.

In addition, this committee will deploy a major task in such traditionally local field such as twinning.

Moreover, the Board of Governors of the FEMP, which has had the participation of the Mayor, José Ballesta, discussed, among other issues, the agreement with Ecoembalajes to develop a common framework for institutional collaboration to advance a better waste management in cities.

Also at the meeting they were addressed other issues related to the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life and the Code of Good Governance of the FEMP.

At the end of the session, it was held the first meeting of the Territorial Council, the highest governing body of the FEMP between full, which belong almost a hundred representatives of local authorities.

This council has the task of carrying forward the "road map" of the FEMP throughout the mandate, following the resolutions adopted by the House last September.
