Murcia in 2015 recorded an increase of 7% in the number of visitors (21/01/2016)

Murcia recorded an increase over the previous year of 7% in overnight visitors in the city, reaching an occupancy rate of 54.5% in 2015.

The average price stood at 46.46 euros, ie 2.24% more than in 2014.

A similar percentage was registered in hotel occupancy during weekends -6.3% -, which is an improvement in leisure tourism, culture and sports, compared to visitors from Monday to Friday, which relate to the traveler for work.

Specifically, it has been located at 58.5% compared to 54.8% in 2014.

As a significant fact highlights the results of December, where the rise in employment was 6.6 points, an increase in the average price of 2.36 euros.

This increase in the number of visitors has been one of the issues discussed today at the meeting held by the Mayor, José Ballesta, along with Councilman Jesus Pacheco, with the board of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (Ashomur) and Congress Office in the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur).

The meeting has also highlighted the main objectives of the strategy to be deployed this year to promote tourism.

These proposals are that:

Murcia boost as a cultural destination, making it the main option and the protagonist of tourist packages is next to the food.

Boost culinary tourism, giving greater importance to the indigenous cuisine based on local produce, local restaurants streamlining its work based on local produce cuisine as well as in the three denominations of origin wine of our region.

Boost religious tourism taking advantage of the special feature of "holy city" of Caravaca, and not only to enter the route Murcia who can do the pilgrims every seven years in the Jubilee year, if not for the Region of Murcia and its capital it becomes must for this type of tourism.

Enhance Murcia to host sporting events.

To achieve these objectives the Department of Tourism will design new tourist packages and renew the offer for bridges and weekends;

The mayor, who this morning attended to Fitur Day events in the region, has also had the opportunity to make a promotion of the city in various media of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y Leon.
